Rob Wigley is a singer-songwriter who splits his time between Durango, Colorado and East Texas. Rob was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He took up guitar at the age of 10 and played in various garage bands. He attended the University of Denver Lamont School of Music as a Music Ed major, with jazz guitar emphasis. After two years he pursued various interests while living in Northern California and Santa Fe, New Mexico. He moved back to Texas in 1982 and began a career in the financial services industry before finally retiring in 2017 (for the third time). Rob and his wife, Leslie, married in 2001.

On these albums Rob plays a 1974 Martin D-28 and a 2020 Taylor 614ce Builders Edition, as well as his 1966 Gibson SG Junior. Rob’s songwriting process is to find a nice chord progression, record that on his phone, and then come up with a melody and cadence. He usually starts the lyrics of a song, then Leslie joins in and they write the complete lyrics together. His favorite part of a song is the bridge, they make him happy, and he says it’s because it’s fun to go away from the melody, but then find the way back seamlessly. As for why the last few years have been so productive for his songwriting Rob says, “For decades I thought a song of mine had to be totally different from what anyone had written before. I finally grew up and realized that there’s a limited number of progressions in western music, and that the melody and lyrics are what’s important. It’s taken me this long to be able to write lyrics that don’t make me cringe. Every song we write has at least one line or combination of words that make it special to me. Sometimes I look back and wonder where they even came from, because I can’t remember!” Rob and Leslie have written over 50 songs together so far.

In early 2024, while recording his new album, 7 Crows, Rob asked Kate Willyard, who sings background vocals on all 4 of his albums, to form a songwriting partnership with the goal to record a joint album in late 2024. That project is on track, with Rob, Leslie and Kate all contributing to the songs they are writing. They hope to have the next album out in mid to late 2025.
