Always Time To Go
Always Time To Go
Palmer Tuning in D. DDDDAD
Running from my past
Headed toward a mystery
I knew it wouldn’t last
Because I know my history
Running from my past, running from my past.
My getaway was clean
But I left a broken heart
I know she had her dreams
So I’m sorry for my part
Yes I’m sorry for my part.
Chorus:
Time just stands still
Like a clock that someone forgot to wind
And lasts until
Paradise arrives.
I’ve always wanted more
And I followed my own road
Done this all before
Seems it’s always time to go
Always time to go
Time to go
Bridge:
I’ll do it all again
Leaving is my old friend
Know I’ll never change
Headed for my dead end.
Outro:
Always time to go, always time to go.
This song uses “Palmer Tuning”, which Stephen Stills uses a lot. Bruce Palmer, the bass player in Buffalo Springfield, created this tuning. I tune down to D, and from the 6th string up it’s D D D D A D, so it’s an open D chord with no third. The chords on the chorus are really cool. This one is also fun for me to play. The lyrics are about a man who is not going to be tied down to any one woman, but he’s not a complete jerk, maybe only 90% jerk. I don’t think he’s redeemable. He is not modeled on me! I love the lines “Time just stands still. Like a clock that someone forgot to wind”. This song is a bit hypnotizing with the droning of the D chord. Fred’s slide guitar increases the vibe of this song. Also, there’s a constant organ drone that makes it even moodier.
