The Empty Chair
The Empty Chair
The lonely hours waiting for him
Not knowing if he will return
The ticking clock it counts the hours
My tears fall down, for him I yearn.
A candle burning in the window
On a hill I stand while looking down
Longing in my heart for my beloved
Painful my soul, in grief I drown.
Chorus:
It seems that I’ve spent half my life
Hoping that the stars will guide him
Back to our home, I hope he feels
The fire I see burn inside him.
Instrumental verse
A mourning dove flies in the twilight
In the solitary space I know
The night falls, darkness comes so quickly
An empty chair by the window.
Chorus:
Repeat 2nd verse.
This song is a companion to “Full Moon Pass” on the 3rd album. It’s told from the female perspective. Leslie and I wrote this with help from our friend Lee Buchanan while we were visiting Lee on Amelia Island near Jacksonville, Florida in January of 2023. It was the first song written for the new album. This is probably the fastest we’ve ever written a song, probably 2 hours start to finish. It had very little editing. I can sing this song, but we asked Kate Willyard to sing it on the record and she kills it, of course.
