Wasted Hours

WASTED HOURS

You stood there crying
When I was done lying
And told me that I had to leave

I slammed the front door
Cause I couldn’t do more
Than constantly lie and deceive.

Chorus:
All the wasted hours
Recklessly spending my time.
I couldn’t see all that was in front of me
Instead I always was crossing that line.

So many years passed by
And I’m not the same guy
Who selfishly threw you away

I know we can’t be friends
Cause I can’t make amends
Love can’t come back once betrayed

Repeat Chorus

One thing that I’ve learned
Is once that your hearts burned
The damage can last a long time.

And trusting the wrong man
When you know your love can
Not change him to your own design.

All the wasted hours
Recklessly wasting your time
But better you tried love, and running away love
While knowing the mistakes were mine.

All the wasted hours
Recklessly spending your time
It’s better you tried love, while running away love
And knowing the mistakes were mine.

This was written in 1981 I think in Santa Fe, NM. I’ve played it for years with the original lyrics, surprise, they sucked. I updated the lyrics in September of 2020 and like them much better now. It includes some of the “rules” about men that I’ve tried to teach my daughters (and Leslie). I’m tempted to shout in the background, “RULE 3!” after one line. This was not a rock and roll song until Fred Kosak of the Stillhouse Junkies changed it in the studio (Scooter might have instigated this). This song might need more cowbell.
