Ghost of Love

GHOST OF LOVE

She came to me, and I took her hand
She needs a friend.
She bowed her head and the teardrops fell
Like they won’t end.
She said she’s seen bad times
The life she’s left so far behind
And can her heart ever mend?

She said that life made a fool of her
When she fell flat.
High hopes, big plans, they’re just out of reach
But still intact.
She said she met a man.
But life with her was never his plan.
And now, twice failed, she’s come back.

Bridge:

A trusting girl                (The times when life comes crashing down)
In the world alone.      (The darkness comes and wraps around)
Her heart, once bold.  (You listen close, but not a sound)
Now hard as stone.     (There’s not a friend that can be found)

The ghost of love that she felt so deep
Will fade with time.
The life she led, when she went out west
Does not define
Cause in new morning light
Her hopes, her dreams, can work out right.
Her heart, though hurt, can heal with time

Cause in new morning light
Her hopes, her dreams, can work out right.
Her heart, broken, can heal with time

The music to this was written in 1978, and, again, I never liked my lyrics from back then. Leslie came up with the initial idea for the new lyrics and I took it from there, though she helped a lot with the editing. We wrote the lyrics in September 2020 and I added a new bridge. The bridge has an interesting vocal arrangement which I’ve never done before. Also, I’ve always flat picked this song; it would sound softer if I finger picked it. Maybe next time. I love how Kate sang on this song, as well as the 9 other songs she sings with me on this album.
