Wonderin’

Wonderin' Album Art

Marc Larby, an old friend in the Bay Area, wrote most of the progression to this song. I helped a bit, though memory fades after the decades as to which parts. We worked on this first in about 1978. The initial melody for this song, written by Marc and me, is now completely out of my range. This ended up as an instrumental with the band. It’s in double drop D tuning, and the drone is important and cool. That’s why I can’t transpose to a different key, and I can’t really capo it and maintain the original sound of the song. Scott Smith heard this as a possible Celtic-style song. It’s in 6/8 time, which is fun. Scott asked Alissa Wolf if she could come up with a Celtic type melody with her fiddle, and she worked on it and brought it into the studio. Cody Tinnin and Fred Kosak and I worked with Alissa to arrange the song and I think we came up with a really cool song. Alissa’s sister, Khara, plays pennywhistle on it. All the collaborations with all of these musicians and Scott have been so fun for me, and they have all added much to all of the songs on this and the prior album.
