Back in Time

BACK IN TIME

Intro:

Remembering the flowers in her hair
I remember sunshine everywhere
I close my eyes and memories take me back in time.
The days, so long ago, that she was mine.

The easy days and nights when love was new
Not knowing then what our lives would turn into.
Listening to her stories, songs she liked to sing
And all the smiles and laughter she would bring

Chorus:
A picture found, a faded memory
It doesn’t show how much she meant to me
A friend of mine remembered from the past
Though she’s gone, those memories seem to last.
We both took the path that, we were meant to find
I’ll always keep these memories of her in my mind.

Last Chorus:

A picture found, a cherished memory
It doesn’t show how much she meant to me

Outro

Another fairly delicate song, at least the part I play on my acoustic guitar. This is an interesting song for me mainly because it’s not a lost-love lamenting type song. Sure, it’s about an old girlfriend, but the song doesn’t explain what happened way back then, it only explores what the singer is thinking about now – how important this person was to his life, but also how he has no regrets. Truly I’ve felt this way about most of my girlfriends throughout my life. This song could be about any of 3 of my previous girlfriends from the 1970’s and 1980’s and 1990’s. All were special to me. I’m a lucky man, indeed, that my wife, Leslie, doesn’t get jealous about a song like this, and actually helped write it! When I wrote the chorus I was thinking, “oh no, Jackson Browne did this much better”, but now that it’s finished I think we have differing thoughts on looking at old photos and what they mean to us. This song was written after I recorded all the demos for this album, it wasn’t really meant for this project, but here it is. It’s interesting that when we recorded it I wasn’t “feeling it” at all, something was just off with me. We did three or four takes, and Scott ended up piecing it together, and did a great job. I can play this easily, but that day it just didn’t feel right. It sure sounds right now though.
