CHASING FIREFLIES

Intro: First 2 lines of verse

Your little feet, barely walking
Your big smile, as pure as rain
We live so far away, but
We can’t wait, to see you again

Chasing fireflies
Dreaming candy canes
Chasing fireflies

A big world, is waiting for you
A kind heart is always in need
Your family will always hold you.
To watch your gifts received.

Chasing fireflies
A future we believe
Chasing fireflies

A brave girl, a Chrysalis
The difference only you can make
We see what’s deep inside you
What paths will you choose to take?

Chasing fireflies
Knowing hearts can break.
Chasing fireflies
A chance you have to take.

Instrumental: Full verse with chorus

I know how life can bend you
It can make you feel you lack
If you’re ever feeling lonesome
I hope you’ll call and ask

Of chasing fireflies
I know you’ll bend it back.
Chasing fireflies

Outro: Full verse and chorus

This was actually recorded for the first album, but wasn’t quite ready when I decided to have the final mix and mastering done. This song has the same progression as about a million songs, essentially, it’s a 1-4-5 progression. When Leslie and I wrote “The Good Day’s (Evie’s Song)” I actually wrote some lyrics and a melody in front of what Leslie wrote for “Good Days”. Though the lyrics are a lot about Evie and my thoughts and wishes as she grows up, it’s also about our two daughters, Landis and Haley. “Knowing hearts can break” is anticipation about what Evie will go through at some point, but it’s more about Landis, and my memory of knowing that putting your heart out there is part of growing up, and it inevitably gets broken – and the worry as a parent that our kids go through things like that. That’s scary for a parent, and scary for a grandparent too.
