The Good Days (Evie’s Song)
I was working on this chord progression, which is a simple 1-4-5, essentially, except for the bridge. Leslie liked the rhythm of how I finger picked it and immediately thought of some lyrics. (I don’t finger pick it in this recording with the band) She finished the lyrics in the evening I think after I went to bed and I saw them the next morning. It took me about a week to work on them and fit them into the cadence of the melody, but they worked really well. I thought the song needed a bridge so I wrote a bridge for it and did the lyrics for that. Other than the bridge the lyrics are almost all Leslie. The song is about our granddaughter, Evie, and our times out at Little Sandy in East Texas. My favorite line is “turtles dive to escape the sunlight”. Fred Kosak, in the studio, changed the intro and made a great hook for the tune. It’s still my chords and my melody, but it’s Fred’s hook. The band made this almost a “Caribbean Rocker”. I think it’s a dance tune. We’ll see if Evie will dance with me to this song….
