Love Has Too Much Pride

LOVE HAS TOO MUCH PRIDE

You look at me
I see you’re crying
I don’t know exactly what it is
That makes you feel this way
You know I love you
But I can’t do a thing unless you tell me what is wrong
I cannot do a thing unless you tell me what is wrong.

You know I love you and I try to feel the things you feel
But can’t you see my hands are tied
Cause when you’re silent love has too much pride.

Chorus:
No I don’t know what it is that makes you sad sometimes
Why don’t you tell me honestly?
Cause when you’re silent love has too much pride.

I take you out
Driving south on a weekend where just the two of us can be alone together……
You know I love you
But I can’t do a thing until you tell me what is wrong.

Repeat Chorus

Can’t you see my hands are tied
Cause when you’re silent, love has too much pride.

Can’t you see my heart is tied
Cause when you’re silent, love has too much pride.

I heard Bonnie Raitt sing the song “Love Has No Pride” back in 1972, and Linda Ronstadt also recorded it in 1973. When I heard it, I thought, “yeah, but in my life, love usually has too much pride”, so I wrote this song in 1979. The lyrics are unchanged from then. I didn’t realize until I recorded it that it has very few rhymes. As with all these songs, especially the older ones, I wrote them and played them for years on my acoustic guitar. Hearing them arranged with a full band is pretty cool.
