Our Story Untold

OUR STORY UNTOLD

I drove to town and I parked my car
And I walked the streets
While I looked for you
Don’t know just what to do
I read your note that we’re through

I had a drink
Maybe 3 or 4 and I
Watched the rain as it’s falling down
Our house is empty and cold
I’m feeling lonely and old.

Chorus:
You made up your mind
To leave me behind
You’re gone down the road
Left our story untold.

I woke up feeling rough
Think I drank enough
To sleep without any dreams of you
Coffee cup warm in my hand.
I still don’t understand.
How to get over you.
What else can I do?

Repeat Chorus

I’ll pick the pieces up
Hope I’ll find enough
And solve the puzzle to get me through
Yes, you’ve shattered my heart
It’s time to make a new start
Now I know that we’re through.
Time to get over you……

Repeat Chorus

Leslie and I wrote this together in early December, 2020. I came up with the opening chord progression (which, like most, has been used many times before) and then added a few more chords. Leslie heard me playing it and asked me to come downstairs and work on it with her. The first couple of lines of the song were sort of a “place holder” for how I wanted the cadence to be, but we ending up adding to that story, and then the song was pretty much finished after a few hours. I edited it for a couple of weeks, and now it’s complete. For those who worry, no we are not breaking up! I do realize that several of the new songs seem to indicate this, but it’s not happening! Sometimes when I write a lyric I really like I Google it, fully expecting that it’s been used before. Specifically, “I woke up feeling rough, think I drank enough” seems so obvious, but according to Google it’s all mine. The guy in this song most likely drank enough not to hear Demon Wings. The pedal steel player, Ted Hockenbury, is amazing on this song. After hearing him play on this song I wanted to change all these songs so that they needed the pedal steel.
